Our Teak tub/Vanity is custom made of solid teak. Each unit offers its "one of a kind" individuality. The grain and wood structure will vary from unit to unit.. This is what makes your teak unit special. It has exclu-sively been treated with natural "linseed oil" which keeps the wood smooth and moist. Over time the color of teak will change and the wood will gain a rich golden glow/tone.

DAILY MAINTENANCE:

Rinse your teak tub with running water after every use to remove any soap scum and/or shampoos. You may use a sponge or a towel/cloth to dry it off and remove any residue left inside the tub. Only use natural materials with your tub for cleaning, no detergents or artificial products. Hot water may be used to sanitize the tub.

Do not use any chemicals, such as Clorox, spot cleaner, acetone, nail polish remover, chlorinated bathroom products, vinegar or Soft scrub as they would harm the wood and dry it unnecessarily.

As a reminder, your tub/vanity should not be placed directly above floor/radiant heating as the wood would dry excessively over a period of time. If your tub is placed in a room with floor heating, we suggest using feet underneath the tub, to allow for ventilation and circulation under your tub. The same goes for the teak vanity.

Your tub or vanity should be installed within 3 months of purchase to prevent drying out of the wood and we recommend frequent oiling of the tub in dry climates. Very important: the more you use a wooden tub, the better it is. Keep in mind that wood is a live, organic material. If your tub is not being used  at least once a week, please make sure to fill it with water. That way the wood will stay in perfect condition for  years to come.

REGULAR CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE TIPS:

The teak in your tub/vanity contains natural oils, inherent in the wood. We suggest the following procedure every 2-3 months depending on usage of the products or if the wood seems dry:

1) Apply natural linseed oil to your tub or vanity, by rubbing the oil into the unit with the grain, not against the grain structure.
2) One or two coats of oil will be enough and do not use a lot of oil at a time.
3) You should start noticing that the oil will soak into the wood and it will look smooth again.
4) Please leave the oil on the unit overnight to allow it to fully soak into the unit.
5) Next day please dry off any excess oil with a dry towel or cloth.

SCRATCHES, DENTS, IMPERFECTIONS

In the event of scratches/imperfections in the wood due to regular wear and tear please do the following:

1) You may sand your tub/vanity lightly first with a coarse grade of sandpaper (120) if needed and then use a finer grade sandpaper afterwards (220). If it is only a minor blemish in the wood, you may only need to use fine sandpaper (220 or 330) or steel wool to buff it out.
2) Use a dry towel/cloth or brush to remove the sawdust afterwards.
3) Apply a coat of linseed oil to the sanded areas and let it dry overnight.
4) The teak will look beautiful and with a golden glow again.

If the wood appears sticky or uneven due to an excess of dry linseed oil previously applied, lightly sanding of the wood or the use steel wool would smooth the teak again.

PLEASE NOTE THAT LINSEED OIL IS A NATURAL, BUT HIGHLY FLAMMABLE PRODUCT and that any cloth/towel used to apply oil to your tub/vanity would have to be washed immediately in your washing machine or disposed of in a safe manner.
